Die Los Angeles Kings wurden im Februar 1966 gegründet und nahmen zum Beginn der Saison 1967/68 den Spielbetrieb auf. Nachdem das Team nach den ersten 20 Jahren seines Bestehens nur sehr geringen Erfolg hatte, änderte sich das mit der Verpflichtung von Wayne Gretzky. Bis heute gilt der Transfercoup als der größte der NHL Geschichte. Mit ihm hatte das Team seine erste erfolgreiche Zeit und verpasste in der Saison 1992/93 erst im Finale den Gewinn des Stanley Cups. Zu beginn der 2010 begann dann endlich der ersehnte sportliche Erfolg. In der Saison 2011/12 und 2013/14 konnten die Los Angeles Kings den Stanley Cup gewinnen.
