Die Chicago Blackhawks wurden im September 1926 gegründet. Der Name stammt von der Infanterie-Division, in welcher der erste Besitzer der Black Hawks im Ersten Weltkrieg gedient hatte. Sie war nach einem großen Indianer aus der Geschichte Illinois‘, Häuptling Black Hawk benannt. Sie spielten von 1926-1986 unter dem Namen Chicago Black Hawks ehe sie sich 1986 darauf einigten den Namen umzuändern in Blackhawks. Den Stanley Cup konnten die Blackhawks bis jetzt insgesamt sechsmal gewinnen.
