Die Anaheim Ducks wurden im Juni 1993 durch die Walt Disney Company unter dem Namen Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (1993-2006) gegründet. Die Idee zur Gründung des Franchises geht auf den Film Mighty Ducks – Das Superteam zurück, der zu Beginn der 1990er Jahre in den USA eine beachtliche Summe an den Kinokassen einspielte. Des Weiteren lief in den 90er Jahren die Zeichentrickserie mit dem Titel Mighty Ducks – Das Powerteam. In der Saison 2002/2003 erreichten sie erstmals überraschend das Finale um den Stanley Cup, ehe in der Spielzeit 2006/07 der erstmalige Gewinn der prestigeträchtigen Trophäe folgte.
